Windy Weather and a Malta Break.
We have just arrived home from another lovely break in Malta to see the in-laws, this time for my Mother-in-law’s 80th birthday. Although it was very hot there still, and incredibly humid which isn’t my favourite kind of weather, but it was great to be able to be in the sun before winter hits properly here in a few weeks. As well as getting the old gang back together with a few surprise guests to celebrate in style, we had the wonderful Malta Air Show to watch…with the Red Arrows among many other incredible performances - jets, the Maltese Air Sea Rescue, World War 2 planes and so much more. It was strange to think that just a couple of months before we had seen the Red Arrows fly over our local area, and now we got to see the whole display all the way over in the Mediterranean!
A long weekend was just enough time to feel like a proper break, we saw wildlife including a chameleon, locusts, cicadas and birds, beautiful flowers and all under warm, blue skies.
Just before we left, the weather here had been a bit inclement to say the least. Rain and wind meant a few things suffered in the garden, including the purple sprouting broccoli and our beautiful, very tall sunflowers which fell like trees. Sad to see them go, but we have cut some of the flower heads to dry for the birds, and there are enough still standing to supply any bees and other pollinators for a while longer. Storm Agnes is supposed to hit later today and as I write this the sky is dark, and it feels decidedly more chilly that the 32 degrees we were in just a few hours ago…in fact it isn’t far above single figures. Yesterday Tim put new, strong stakes to a lot of the plants and I pruned some back to hopefully save them from the gusts, but we will have to wait and see. At least we weren’t supposed to be flying back as I fear the flights would have been cancelled!
Anyway, time to do some work, here is another sunny scene to leave you with…the sun is always shining somewhere after all!
