The snowdrops that cover our garden at the moment are stunningly beautiful, they have spread by themselves in such a way that their positioning almost looks by design. Our crocus numbers however have dwindled over the past few years, so I bought some more from the garden centre last week - a mix of yellow and purple - to add these pretty, ‘first colour-splash of spring’ blooms to the flower beds. They are so cheerful and bridge the gap here between the white blanket of snowdrops to the grape hyacinths, tete-a-tetes and bigger daffodils which will be following on soon.
Last Friday was Valentine’s Day - its hard to avoid I know and its not for everyone, but I like it. We, very romantically, had our optometrist appointments in the afternoon, did the grocery shopping and had egg and chips for tea…we are people of simple pleasures! On Saturday we met up with friends for a very convivial few hours at our local beer festival which every year sees our brewery packed to the doors with people trying lots of different ales, filling in their tasting notes and trying to complete the full set. I stuck to my usual tipple of bitter as I just really like it, and its gluten free which unfortunately is necessary for me. We are lucky here as there are two more food and drink festivals coming up throughout the year so lots more supping and tasting to look forward to.
So here we are at the start of another week, we will see what the weather gods send us which will in turn dictate what I may be able to get done in the garden, we had frost again first thing today - its that frustrating time of year when it is so nearly spring, but still very much winter!
