Last weekend we had the fourth named storm of the season…and by far the worst where we live, Storm Darragh. It brought a lot of rain but mostly incredibly high winds with strong gusts, and the damage is everywhere. As we are inland, we didn’t get the absolute worst of it, and aside from some fallen and damaged fence panels we got away with it pretty well, but there are a lot of trees that fell victim to it like the one pictured above - a beautiful tree in the river that has managed to stay vertical through many years of bad weather events. Most of the roads around here were closed after the storm due to trees and branches down, landslips and flooding, and it was the same picture right across Britain. Amazingly our rickety old greenhouse which seems to be mostly held together by putty is still standing as is the big one so we are very grateful for that.
So the new year will see a practically new fence between us and our neighbour, but before that we have the festive period and hopefully a chance to unwind a bit. It has been a stressful end to 2024 for many reasons, but for me the dark, quieter days are a perfect reason to hibernate!
