August has been kind weatherwise (if a little hot and humid) so far, and we seem to have been outside more than in the house which is obviously great for outdoorsy types like us. Between the garden, walks and going out on the bikes we are certainly getting our share of vitamin D and fresh air, plus we are off on our annual pilgrimage to Beautiful Days festival tomorrow for a weekend in the tent, fabulous music, fun and friends.
The garden is going great guns at the moment, as you can see from the collage above, colour is everywhere whether it be from flowers, fruit or vegetables. The grapes are turning from bright green to a sultry shade of dark purple, tomatoes are doing their ‘traffic-light’ thing and the peppers are swelling nicely. Our mini cucumbers are STILL fruiting after months so I will definitely plant them again next year, our salads have been wonderful and now we can pick tomatoes almost daily they is one less thing to have to buy.
The next crop to look forward to are the apples as I know I have mentioned before. Above is a picture of the step-overs which are absolutely covered with fruit, they are ripening well, so soon we can pick one and see how near to ready they are as it is the first year we have had a proper tree full. The cooking apples will be ripe too and the tree has started to drop the ones it deems suitable for discarding so I foresee apple crumble and sauce in my culinary future.
So that’s it for this brief update, I have the last camping stuff to sort out then it’s off to Devon, have a great weekend folks!
