Hi all, we’re just back from a long weekend in Malta to see the in-laws and get some much needed sun and a break from the permanent rain here in the UK! This visit was beautiful weather-wise, low to mid 20’s on the thermometer which brought some beautiful sunsets. Malta has stunning skies, and when you see a pastel sunset like the one here it really is magical as the sea turns purple on a calm evening. It is a great time of year to visit, before the island swelters in the summer heat and humidity and the mosquitos feast on everyone (I only got one bite which is very good for me as they seem to be a fan!) flowers and wildlife can be seen everywhere as spring takes hold.
We don’t swim in the sea, but many people do so if you visit Malta a good tip is to swim where the locals do…mainly due to creatures like this. A beautiful jellyfish with amazing colouring but packing a nasty sting is the Mauve Stinger which can be found all around Malta. They breed in the warm Mediterranean waters so I wouldn’t want to be in the sea with them, but when one floats near the shore you can safely see their fabulous pinky-purple tones.
While we are flooded and soggy here, Malta is seeing the opposite problem, it is already a particularly dry year with hardly any rain, it is clear to see how dry the landscape is so hopefully there will be some soon to help the farmers out. Malta produces the most wonderful fruit and veg - huge broad beans, tomatoes and strawberries as well as gorgeous cauliflowers and citrus to name but a few.
Tim will be heading back over solo in a couple of months as it will be too hot for me, but I will return in late September to get my fix of one of our favourite places, until then I can enjoy photos and memories!
