Not using chemicals comes with many, many rewards, but also some jobs that are infuriating…like picking tiny caterpillars off the ‘swedelings’ by hand in the morning. Unfortunately, and unavoidably, cabbage white butterflies always get into the greenhouse and lay their eggs on things, notably our baby swede plants, the leaves of which now look like lace - but the centres are fine so they will still grow well. The green caterpillars are the exact same colour as the leaves so it takes quite a bit of inspection and fiddly picking, but it is worth it.
