Mammal Week 2024
Its National Mammal Week! A celebration of all mammals and a means to raise awareness of them and their lives, conservation and protection. Started by The Mammal Society of The British Isles charity (renamed The Mammal Society in 1967), the first mammal week was back in 1999 to highlight British animals but since then many people have adopted the event around the globe. The Mammal Society has been in existence since 1954 after a meeting of well-known zoologists, naturalists and the Zoological Society of London, previously been held in October, this year mammal week has moved to spring.
The theme this time is ‘Forgotten Mammals’ to highlight endangered, under-recorded and extinct animals, but all need to be conserved along with their habitats. There are lots of events being held this week so do check out their website to learn more!

We all have mammals in our lives, whether it be our beloved pets, wildlife in the garden, squirrels in the woods or even rodents in the streets, they play an enormous role in our ecosystems and are fascinating to watch, learn about and generally adore. One of my favourite wild mammals is the hedgehog and they feature in my artwork quite a lot. What is your favourite mammal? Let me know in the comments!
